A first-anniversary article linked the project’s origin to a photograph taken in Kerkennah in 1986. Historical versions later displayed “conception 13 October 2009” and “birth 18 September 2011”.

Conception
Before the public website, Kerkenniens took shape as a personal project around Kerkennah, photography and the wish to preserve traces. Historical versions explicitly displayed this conception date.

Kerkenniens goes live
The website becomes public. Its first identity is strongly photographic: full-screen scenery, palms, boats, sunsets and simple navigation. Kerkenniens initially behaves like a passionate field guide.

Photography before classification
Early pages cover the islands, access, places to see, villages, fishermen, palm trees and everyday life. Photography is the primary language, with text supporting a highly personal visual memory.

The guide becomes a blog
Articles gain importance. Memories, recipes, testimonies, associations and current items join the discovery pages. Kerkenniens starts working like a collective notebook while remaining deeply photographic.

An editorial magazine emerges
The layout becomes lighter and more structured around sections, galleries, recipes and articles. The site gradually shifts from photo guide to an archipelago magazine, organising sea, food, initiatives and heritage more clearly.

Document, explain, transmit
The fourth generation goes much deeper: Kerkennah history, archaeological circuit, museum, saltworks, Grimdi, Fort Lahsar, weekly market, snorkeling, sea outings, cycling, charfia, sautade and fish and seafood glossaries. Pages become documentary dossiers.

A closure is announced
After more than seven years of volunteer activity, an article announces that updates will stop. The site remains as a corpus. Later archives nevertheless show a return and further enrichment.

2023
Return, updates and a new octopus
Kerkenniens visibly resumes editorial activity. A new octopus emblem is introduced and the site increasingly stresses information accuracy, content updates and knowledge-management principles.

2024
A mature documentary guide
The latest V4 captures show a dense website of history, heritage, sea, itineraries, practices, environment, glossaries and recent articles. The content is rich, but the architecture remains that of a blog that has grown very large.

Technical renewal
The corpus is extracted from the historical SQL dump. 468 articles become Markdown and 106 old pages are preserved. The new engine leaves WordPress for a portable multilingual flat-PHP architecture without an editorial database dependency.

Memory becomes architecture
V5 brings both legacies together: the validated contemporary design and the documentary depth accumulated since the first versions. Major historical dossiers become first-class content again, clearly separating historical archive, durable knowledge and practical information requiring re-verification.

Content becomes a system
V5.1 directly connects Markdown files to the homepage, search, metadata, sitemaps and the private administration interface. Adding an article is no longer a chain of manual technical operations: the corpus becomes the single source from which publishing, discoverability and administration are derived.
